Finally an Ol’ Dirty Bastard Biopic is In Development At Sony

(TIML NEWS) Nearly two years after the rumors first sparked, an Ol’ Dirty Bastard biopic is finally heading to the big screen, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. The new project about the famed Wu-Tang Clan member is reportedly in development at Sony’s Columbia Pictures.

The studio has not commented on the latest report, but it’s reported that RZA will be attached to the film’s production. RZA first hinted at a possible biopic in 2016 interview with Rollin Stone, saying, “Straight Outta Compton] showed that with the proper team and marketing, many of us out here who grew up on this music would love to see the inside makings of those stories.”

Insiders close to the film also said they are in search of a director, according to THR.

O.D.B. – born Russell Tyrone Jones – was a founding member of the rap collective Wu-Tang Clan with RZA and GZA. After finding success with Wu-Tang’s first album, Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers, O.D.B. went on to release his first solo album, Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version in 1995. He earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album that same year. The rapper died in 2004 of a drug overdose.

It is unclear when the O.D.B  biopic will start filming or be released at this time.
