(TIML NEWS) While J. Cole is known to have a firm hand in concocting the beats he raps over, the Fayetteville native is now relaxing his control over the boards. On Monday afternoon (Aug. 6), the “ATM” rapper raked in a rich number of retweets and responses when he asked his Twitter followers for new instrumentals.

“Feed me beats,” Cole began the call to action. “Everything gettin’ murdered.” The tweet has garnered nearly 6,500 responses from lucky beatsmiths that hope to one day say “J. Cole rapped over my beat.” Even Grammy-nominated singer SZA, producer WLPWR (Eminem, Big K.R.I.T., Wiz Khalifa), legendary rapper Raekwon, and Cole’s Dreamville signee J.I.D.  responded to his request.

On Cole’s fifth studio album, K.O.D., his name is featured on almost all of the 12 tracks. The only melody that Cole was solely responsible for writing to was “Kevin’s Heart,” a three-minute instrumental that was crafted by T-Minus and Mark Pelli. Cole has flexed his production skills since his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story (2011).

In a 2013 interview with Noisey, a burgeoning J. Cole discussed how through blending different sounds from other hip-hop leaders, he finally found his signature style.

“The first sh*t I recorded sounded like Eminem married Nas and had a baby and he made a song and that’s how I sounded. And then my next song sounded like a Canibus clone, and then my next song sounded like this, and before I knew it, in two, three years I had my own sound,” he said. “And before I knew it, in six years I really had my own style, and that’s how I feel that finally happened with production.”
