(TIML NEWS) After garnering critical acclaim earlier this year with Logan and ending Hugh Jackman’s 17-year run as the iconic Marvel X-Men Wolverine, a spinoff may be in the works.
Recently, the actor, while sitting alongside director James Mangold and producer Hutch Parker, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Logan’s success and the possibility of an X-23 spinoff.
Apparently, fans of X-Men can thank DC’s Wonder Woman for the discussions, which would center around Laura Kinney (X-23). “Patty [Jenkins’] success with [Wonder Woman] only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist,” said Mangold. “The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”
Jackman won’t be involved in the X-23 spinoff, but says he’ll be one of the first in line to see it… if it comes to fruition. “No, I won’t be a producer on a Laura sequel,” he said. “But I will be lining up on a Thursday night at 10 p.m. to watch it though. She is just phenomenal.”
With Jackman hanging up his claws, the question remains: Will we see Wolverine on the big screen again? “I know someone will. I hope it will be recast,” he said.
For now, there’s no confirmation, but it appears there is serious talks going on about telling the X-23 story. Would you watch it?
