Manuel Noriega Former Panamian Dictator dead at 83

(TIML NEWS) Former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega has died at the age of 83, according to a tweet by Panama’s President Juan Carlos Varela.

On March 7th, Noriega underwent surgery in Panama City to remove a benign brain tumor. Complications following the surgery led to Noriega being placed in a medically induced coma.

Noriega was in office from 1983 to 1989, and was once friendly with the United States. But in 1989 the US, under George H.W. Bush, invaded Panama, and Noriega was convicted of drug charges in 1991. He then spent close to 20 years in United States prisons.

Noriega is survived by his wife Felicidad Sieiro and daughters Sandra, Thays, and Lorena.
