(TIML HEALTH) Sean Butler is an active leader with the Northwest Bronx Community & clergy Coalitions Health Justice Committee, where his experience with working with youth as a fitness, nutrition ,and wellness coach for low-income youth of color in the Bronx informs their agenda for participatory community health planning, asset-based community development and health equity.
He is a trainer around the NWBCCC’s Root of Community Health curriculum that develops community members knowledge of the social determinants of health and community health needs assessments.
Sean is a Certified Personal Trainer and the creator of “Team Healthy Heart” Nutrition and wellness workshops geared toward elementary-age youth under the banner of a ‘A healthy Heart Is A Healthy Brain’. The goal of “Team Healthy Heart” is to incorporate nutrition and wellness practices in the lifestyles of youth throughout The South Bronx , where chronic disease associated with obesity in adults, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension , and high blood pressure, are increasing in children. Sean’s engaging coaching style and curricula motivates young people to develop active lifestyles and to understand how to make healthier food choices within their environment.
Sean Butler is a Bronx native who aims at having a positive impact on the health equity of his borough and his city. This event was an opportunity to thank those for their commitment to improving the health of community residents, to report back on our collaborative efforts and to discuss upcoming initiatives in the Bronx and New York City.
