(TIML NEWS) Kanye West has said it before, “I Am a God”, and even declared himself Yeezus for his 2013 album. Now, someone has immortalized the rap icon with a life-sized, God-life statue in Hollywood.
Street artist Plastic Jesus recently erected a metallic gold statue of Kanye on Hollywood Blvd, as if he were Yeezus, complete with a crown of thorns, a sheet covering himself, a Jesus piece around his neck and YEEZY Boost 350 sneakers on his feet, of course.
The statue stands upon a red carpet platform, with a plaque on the side that reads “FALSE IDOL” in the same font on his familiar merch.
“[West is] a genius at writing and producing, but he’s not a God, and that’s where we put him. Until there’s an issue in his life or a hiccup in his career, then we crucify him,” Plastic Jesus tells The Hollywood Reporter. “By all means, treat and respect these people as artists, but don’t make them into gods—because we crucify our gods.”
The statue is located at the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and La Brea Ave. It will also appear in Plastic Jesus’ exhibition with Billy Morrison, “Anesthesia: The Art of Oblivion,” on February 24.
