(TIML NEWS) A mother and her 3-year-old son were found dead Monday morning inside their West Harlem residence, police said. Cops found the 36-year-old mother with an electric cord tied around her neck in the living room and the little boy drowned in the bathtub in the third-floor apartment at W. 153rd Street near Riverside Drive at about 8:30 a.m., authorities said.
The buildings super called 911 after he smelled a foul odor and went on the fire escape and saw the mother lying on the floor through the window, sources said. A police source said its believed the mother’s body was there for between three and four days. “I can’t believe this,” said neighbor Javier Yudelka, 43, adding that in the past she has seen the little boy run up and down the hall of the six-story building.
“[He] runs up and down the hall and I never see her saying ‘Be quiet’ or ‘Come back here’ or anything. He’s just allowed to run around and do what he wants,” Yudelka said.
Yudelka said she hadn’t seen the mother in the last two weeks, adding that the woman “is not very friendly, never says hello or ‘thank you.’”
Another stunned neighbor, who asked not to be named, said, “There was never any noise from her apartment. It didn’t even sound like anyone was in there.”
Police are investigating the incident.
